Working to Resolve Child Support Modification Issues
When parenting plans are originally created, the courts look at several financial and personal factors to determine custody and child support payments. While the courts are bound to use a formula established by Florida Statute, the data entered into that formula is different for every family. And over time, there will be life changes that require a child support modification or changes to child custody.
At Sanders & Sanders, we help people throughout Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties to resolve child support and child custody issues that have developed over time. Talk to our attorneys and learn more about the creative ways we can work with you to change or alter your parental plan. Call 407-843-0012 or contact us online.
When Can You Modify a Support Amount or Custody Arrangement?
Child support modification or child custody changes are only allowed if there has been a significant change in circumstances since the parenting plan was created. Some of the reasons that a child support modification or a change to child custody may be required include:
- Loss of a job by either parent
- The child or children have reached driving age and car insurance must be accounted for
- There are post-secondary education expenses
- The child or children age out of day care and those expenses are no longer applicable
- The family is relocating, causing issues with joint custody
- A parent is re-marrying or cohabitating with another individual
- There is a promotion or substantial raise in salary of either parent
All of these factors would affect the original outcome of the parenting plan and may call for modification of child support. In addition to these changes, our lawyers also work with our clients to resolve issues regarding visitation or legal custody.
